Master Bedroom Closet Update

Perry finished installing the red cedar on the walls of the master bedroom closet. It looks amazing. The smell is incredible, it is like a walk in the mountains. Now to design the closet organizer & shelving to complete the room and keep our clothes organized.

In Loving Memory of Zzoe

Today would have been Zzoes 17th birthday...he passed away on October 23rd. I just wanted to share a few pictures of his life. Our last pet. Now the patter of footsteps in our homes will be grandchildren and much to Perry's disapproval our grandpets lol.

Zzoe joined our family when we stilled lived in Revelstoke, BC so his first winter was pretty snowbound. He did not like the feel of grass upon his little feet when spring arrived. We purchased him from a breeder in Calahoo, AB. Everytime we head up to Fort St John we pass the sign just west of Etown for Calahoo and I think of Zzoe. A wonderful companion for our female Yorkie Toby. They had one litter of puppies before we had them both fixed. Big P and Little P. P standing for puppy...original hey? One little girl didn't make it, Ashley named her Hope and she is buried up here at the lake close to Zzoe. He was a great dog, a funny one. Not much for playing with toys but he sure like to take them away from Toby when she was playing with them. Tug of war was a favourite of his. When Perry entered my life in 2011 Zzoe became his constant companion. True love. The meals that man cut up for Zzoe...the tiniest little morsels of steak for his little baby. Bags and bags of treats. Total devotion for each other. He will be sorely missed. We hope you are curled up on Bold's lap keeping each other company. Sleep well little pup you deserve it, we love you.

Four Feet in Heaven
Your favourite spot is vacant now
No eager ruffs to greet me
No softly clicking paws to run
Ecstatically to meet me.

No coaxing rubs, no plaintive cry
Will say it's time for feeding...
I've put away your bowl
And all the things you won't be needing.

But I will miss you little friend
For I could never measure
The happiness you brought to me
The comfort and the pleasure.

And since God put you here to share
In earthly joy and sorrow
I am sure there will be a nice place for you
In Heaven's bright tomorrow.

More Real Estate for the Squirrels & Birds

Living in a forest.... living in harmony with the little critters. We live in their neighbourhood and we try to be good neighbours. If we cut a tree we plant a tree. We have placed numerous feeders and houses around the yard. Various plantings of shrubs and flowers to attract more creatures. The sounds of birds and squirrels fill the air on most days. Very entertaining to watch them go about their day.

"A wise woman recoginzes when her life is out of balance and summons the courage to act to correct it, she knows the meaning of true generosity, happiness is the reward for a life lived in harmony, with courage and grace" - Suzie Orman

Recycled tin can lids hammered flat, make an original tin roof
Feeder for birds and squirrels, mom keeps getting squirrels and birds under the glass on hers, so I lowered the glass to about 1/2" from the base. See if that fixes that issue
Feeder Version 2.0 complete
Found a great tree to hang the feeder. Perfect view from my shop windows, chipmunks were eating in it five minutes after we hung it
The chipmunks have been needing their own home in the backyard. There are about 25 chipmunks running around at any given time in the yard
The 4 story tower is really just for show, too low for any bird to move into but we did add floors in case a chipmunk needs a place for a night or two lol
Complete and ready to go outside
There is a stump below that we screwed the house to. The chipmunks beneath the stump in burrows. They zip up and around on the stump at 100 miles an hour. The baby 'munks are the cutest ever

Painted Paddles Project

One great thing about the Lakehouse is all the great space to hang art. Art and textiles I have created and art from others. Ashley's mother-in-law is a wonderful artist. We will be putting a large canvas of hers on the great room wall soon. A fabulous addition to our art collection. Check out Cindy Vincent online. She has such a great command of light. A wonderful woman to share my grandbaby Sawyer with.

Another artist that I hope to have hanging on our walls someday is Cindy Revell. An amazing whimsical artist who I have know since my teenage years. Her work hangs in the Daffodil Gallery in Edmonton.

Anyway, back to the paddles. In keeping with life at the lake I thought we should hang a paddle or two on the wall. High ceilings give us plenty of opportunity for statement pieces. I have a surfboard that I plan on mosaicing with stained glass. We will hang this from the great room ceiling 30 odd feet in the air someday. The paddles were really easy to paint. Just come up with an inspiring design, lightly sand the paddle and wash clean. I drew the pattern on the paddle and used painters tape on some of the lines. I sealed it with a couple coats of spray varnish. In keeping with the paddle/lake/native theme I added some feathers, leather and beads to the top part of the handle.

I used latex craft paint, the sealer will protect from chipping during cleaning
I planned the paint palette to match the sign and the stained glass in the doors
Such a fun project, I want to paint some more. Maybe some Haida Gwaii west coast designs

Garage Bathroom Mirror

In keeping with Project UFOs I have finished the driftwood mirror for the garage half bathroom last week. My collection of driftwood came in very handy. Lazy summer days are filled with beach trips to collect wood. A nice way to spend an afternoon, sunning on the beach and a picnic with Perry. I incorporate driftwood into a variety of art projects. I love the natural smoothness of the wood. The sun bleached gray is one of of my favourite colors

Started with a wood frame with a routered edge for the mirror to sit upon. When I make another one of these I would suggest aging the wood frame first with steel wool and vinegar
I used a brad nailer to secure the driftwood to the frame
Like a puzzle, keep trying once piece after another until it speaks to you
Ready to put the mirror in
In place in the bathroom, the perfect addition to this little room
Can't hardly wait to build another one

UFOs

Last week was fantastic! Nothing like accomplishing tasks to make a person feel so energized. My long list of UFOs was diminished greatly. The Fort St John Quilter's Guild that I used to belong to back in the day ran a yearly contest for the member who could finish the  most "Unfinished Objects". It was great fun. Most quilters and crafters already know that a lot of the fun in the project is in the beginning planning stages. Hence we all end up with boxes of items awaiting assembly. There is never any shortages of projects for a rainy day in our household. So between repairs and completion I had a great week in my workshop. I have these great work tables and now I can actually work on them without so much clutter.
But first a hello from my little jelly bean Sawyer miss you peanut
After staining and varnishing the garage foyer I hung up the sign Ash and Dan gave us for Christmas 2014 don't you just love it
I repainted this little turtle Mama Violet gave me last fall when we helped them clean out their Candle cabin, he has a spot by the waterfall with his name on it
We barn boarded the edges and legs of my gecko mosaic table, ready for the deck time to get out there and collect more boards for more projects
Added a little stain to the top corner round, rustic statement pieces just the way we like our furniture
The best stones come from BC. I try to get out there a couple times a year to collect
Perry's project completed. A set of two flower pots for his mom for mother's day, just ready for staining
In between projects I have been working on stained glass for the shops, glass feather sun catchers
This project wasn't completed, only begun, birdhouse wall hanging that was damaged in the move, so put that at the top of my 2nd UFO list for 2015
Birdhouse stained and hung, thank you sweetie
We actually had a skiff of snow last week if you can imagine. Mr Bunny heading over to the bunny feeder

Finally finished the mirror for the garage bathroom
Another squirrel and bird feeder, check out the recycled tin roof
A chipmunk feeder for the backyard...check
