Amaro (Italian for "bitter") is an Italian herbal liqueur that is commonly drunk as an after-dinner digestif. It usually has a bitter-sweet flavor, sometimes syrupy, and has an alcohol content between 16% and 35%.
Amaro should not be confused with amaretto, another Italian liqueur that is sweet and flavored with almonds or with the pits of drupe fruits such asapricots. Nor should it be confused with amarone, a rich Italian dry red wine from Valpolicella.

Ceiling UPDATE Great Room

The great room ceiling is complete. Let the trimming begin for the windows and doors. What a great job those guys did, it looks amazing. They will be back to finish the skylight tunnel thru the master bedroom thru to the master bath and also finish what we began in the bonus room. Let the professionals do the crazy angles. It is so wonderful to sit in there and not be staring up at green foam insulation. The wood is warm and inviting and no cleaning required.
Loft/Master bedroom looking east
Loft looking west. Will cover this wall with poplar in a darker shade of stain. The exercise equipment side of the loft.... imagine the gallons of sweat that are going to pour off us here in the future!
Great Room view from the loft to the northwest
Great Room facing north. The fireplace is getting covered with plywood  1st step to installing the rock
Great Room
We have been jumping all over the house working here and there. Lately we have been doing more in my workshop. Perry installed more tongue and groove, built more glass storage shelves and I have done some staining  and attempted to put more glass away. It is going to be such a great place to work eventually.
Is it level Per? Adding the pine to the west workshop wall love my driftwood color stain
Perry made me this great glass shelf.... I am running out of wall space for all my glass storage.
Wall is complete, plumbers have to finish the plumbing lines to the sink before we can add those few boards. But we cut them and stained them so they are ready when we are ready.

My Drive up North

Back to the Lakehouse today, after an enjoyable few days with my fiance in Melfort. Spent the time making revisions to the cabinet plans, picking window trims and making yummy suppers for Perry and Bold. Was a lovely day for a drive, warm and sunny. Sort of springy but for April 18th I would expect to see more melt happening. Oh well, it has never not melted before so I expect unless we hit an Iceage it will happen eventually. Seeing wild life along the Hansen Lake Road always makes the drive fun and it goes faster.

First I must say RIP little Ruffled Grouse.... I have no idea why you flew at my grill and I am so sorry that all I saw in my rear view mirror was a cloud of feathers... now I never saw a body (and on the soaps if there is no body.... they are still alive) so I am going to believe that you survived albeit a few less feathers!!!
In memory of Roy the Ruffled Grouse
Scooter the Skunk was just waddling along the edge of the ditch by the  Torch River
The Whiskey Jacks were on a suicide mission too on the edges of the highway... crazy birds!
Fred the Fox was trucking along the ditch by White Gull and stopped to sniff the air for mouses in the houses!!!
A Raven digging in the snow
The crows returned a few weeks ago and are cawing away by the lakehouse already...arghhh

What a great day to be alive. Love one another and be at peace with all that is.

Sophia Vergara & Hypothyroidism

Opening up about her battle with hypothyroidism and thyroid cancer, "Modern Family" actress Sofia Vergara visited Dr. Mehmet Oz's talk show today. Sofia dished candidly with Dr. Oz on her life. In addition, learn about the symptoms of cancer and hypothyroidism below. Besides being a beautiful, funny accomplished actor and having a great accent she has become a spokes person for Thyroid issues. I myself have dealt with Hypothyroidism for 20 years and give kudos to her for publicizing this disease that is easily controlled. Be proactive and keep healthy. Life is too short already.
Sofia won her war with thyroid cancer, and she and Dr. Oz want you to understand how to detect the symptoms of hypothyroidism (a slow thyroid) and thyroid nodules (lumps). What you should know: Your thyroid gland manufactures thyroid hormone, which fuels your metabolism. Too much results in hyperthyroidism; too little causes hypothyroidism. The key to detecting thyroid cancer: Learn the symptoms of having a nodule in your neck, which can include problems such as difficulty swallowing, neck pain, hoarseness, coughing or even difficulty in breathing. Talk with your doctor about any of those symptoms or if you detect a nodule. Only one in 20 nodules are cancerous. However, having hypothyroidism can result in problems such as weight gain and fatigue, so it's important to go to your doctor if you have any of the symptom of hypothyroidism, which may include:
  • weight gain
  • feeling cold all the time
  • brain fog or mental confusion
  • constipation
  • fatigue
